Erode Corporation holds spl camp to check tax evasion

Erode corporation arranged a special camp to check tax evasion for 6 wards in zone 3 at Parimalam Mahal Erode on Saturday. It's first of its kind organised by revenue department of local body. The camp was inaugurated by Mayor Nagarathinam Subramaniam, in the presence of Commissioner Dr N Manish, Deputy mayor Selvaraj, zonal president Sasikumar, assistant commissioner Karthikeyan, assistant executive engineer Anandh, JE Balu, councillors Manikandaraja, Kumaravelu.
The officials said that many didn't come under property tax or vacant land tax in the city. Such persons can approach the camp or civic body to remit the tax from as on date. Our tax assessors were also inspecting such  unauthorized buildings which didn't come under tax net. Now without plan approval, buildings cannot be built. If anyone build houses or any structure, hefty fine upto Rs 1 lakh will be levied and 50 paise per sq ft would be added on property tax. Besides fine would be slapped on water, UGD and property taxes etc for life long. After getting plan approval through online, one should remit vacant land tax. Otherwise, the approval would be cancelled. In fact, only after uploading all required documents, the plan would be approved by online. The plan approval would be given within a few days. So,  many get  bank loans easily. On an average 2500 applications came to the civic body every year  for tax assessment. The camp received nearly 50 applications regarding tax assessment, name change, corrections in the assessment etc. This kind of camps would be held in all 4 zones shortly, they said.
