A district-level boxing competition was held at Sri Kamakshi Vidyalaya Matric Higher Secondary School in Tuticorin to select participants for the state-level event. Over 200 student boxers from government, government-aided, and matriculation schools participated in the event.
The competition began with the Tamilthaivazhthu at the inaugural function. JK Subbulakshmi, Vice Principal, welcomed the gathering. Dr. S Kannadasan, District Inspector of Sports, inaugurated the event and highlighted the government's efforts to promote sports and games for the benefit of students. In his address, Dr. Kannadasan stated that the Tamil Nadu government, under the guidance of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, has introduced several initiatives to encourage physical activity and sports in schools across the state. He emphasised that the primary goal is to prepare the younger generation for global competitions like the Olympics. He also encouraged students to take up boxing, a martial art, and bring honor to the nation. C Arunachalam, Secretary of Sri Kamakshi Vidyalaya, delivered a felicitation speech, stressing the role of sports and games in building mental strength. He urged students to remain dedicated to sports to achieve national and international recognition.
During the event, C Arunachalam honored the chief guest, Dr. S Kannadasan, and the event organizer, Arul Sahayam, by presenting them with shawls and mementos. Certificates were distributed to the winners in various categories by Dr. S Kannadasan, C Arunachalam, and G Meenakumari, the school’s Principal.
The competition was jointly organized by Dr. S Kannadasan, Arul Sahayam, C Arunachalam, G Meenakumari, P Muthukumar (Physical Education Teacher of SKVMHSS), and other physical education teachers from various schools in the district.
