The Annur goat market in Coimbatore has become increasingly busy ahead of the Bakrid festival.
Farmers typically sell their goats at the weekly Saturday market, but with Bakrid just a few days away, sales began early this morning.
Traders from Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Nilgiri districts, and the states of Karnataka and Kerala have gathered at the market to buy goats, including sheep and Malayan goats.
Prices for the goats range from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 5,000, while goats with solid bodies and slightly heavier weights are sold for between Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 20,000.
