2.5 lakh people benefitted by Innuyir Kappom scheme, says Minister Subramanian

Minister for Health M Subramanian announced on Thursday that over 2.54 lakh people have benefited from the State government’s ‘Innuyir Kappom-Nammai Kaakkum 48’ scheme since its launch by Chief Minister M K Stalin in December 2021. Speaking at the sixth convocation of Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College, Subramanian detailed how the State government provides up to Rs 1 lakh for treatment of road accident victims during the first 48 hours at any of the 694 empanelled hospitals, including 237 private ones. He reported that 2,54,256 people have been treated under this scheme, with the State government spending approximately Rs 221 crore on their treatment and related expenses.
Additionally, Subramanian highlighted the success of the State government’s Idhayam Kappom initiative, a preventive heart health scheme, which has benefitted 8,562 patients since its inception in June last year. The initiative ensures the availability of emergency loading doses (14 tablets) at 8,713 sub-health centres and 2,287 primary healthcare centres, aiming to prevent deaths due to heart attacks, particularly among poor patients in remote and hilly areas.
The Minister also encouraged government medical colleges to invite the parents of graduates to convocation ceremonies, emphasising that it is a significant occasion for parents to witness their children's achievements. During the convocation, 98 graduates received their certificates. The event was attended by the Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Assembly, K Pitchandi, Collector D Bhaskara Pandian, and the college Dean, K Hariharan.
